"They are always sitting around with their big USU degrees making $150,000 salaries while thinking of ways to screw us! They just did it again. I wonder which one will be next, Logan City? Cache County? Bear River Health Department? USU?............."
I made the above statement about two weeks ago in the forum about the cache county school district increasing our property Taxes! You can read it by clicking here. What did I tell you? They just did it again! Now Logan City has to get their extra little chunk of our money! It never stops! Soon, no one will be able to own their property. The Government is taking it from us bit by bit! This is what happens in Communist Governments and look at us in little old Utah. I wonder what that says about our local government. I hope that everyone who reads this will do their part to let Logan City know of your discontent over this decision.

"Logan approves property tax hike

Logan homeowners will be paying $3.22 more in property taxes on average in fiscal year 2006-07, following a Tuesday night vote by the Municipal Council.
Councilmembers approved a 1.74 percent property tax rate increase before signing off on Mayor Randy Watts’ $112.7 million budget. The annual payment for residents is based on a home valued at $150,000. Business owners will be paying a bit more, at around $5.85 a year on commercial outlets with the same value.
That hike translates to a 6.9 percent revenue increase into the city’s coffers, from $3.13 million in fiscal year 2005-06 to $3.3 million.
“Personally, I am against tax increases but I really think there is some wisdom in what we have set out to do,” said Council Chairman Steve Thompson.
The unanimous vote in favor of the small uptick will help the city bring its bond rating back to a level where officials want it to be, and could be a factor in reducing the municipality’s reliance on transfers as a revenue source.
“We really followed the blueprint and the advice of our bond council, and that’s just part of the equation,” Thompson said of the new rates.
Logan Finance Director Richard Anderson said the move will help “keep property tax a viable source of revenue for the city” and said in most cases, the levy accounts the lion’s share of money earned by Utah cities.
Property tax is the fourth most profitable revenue source for Logan city behind sales tax, franchise tax and transfers.
Sounds like it! Heck, i'm in the wrong business. I should just find a way to sit on my duff all day and collect Property Taxes on working people!
“In most municipalities, at the very least it’s second,” Anderson said. “What we’re trying to do is not raise property taxes by 27 percent a year but spread them out evenly.”
So in other words, don't drop the frog in hot water, let it slowly cook to death? I see, Tax people so they don't notice it until one day they find out that they can't pay the Tax any longer.
At a public hearing held just prior to the council’s vote, one woman expressed her concern about the necessity of an increased property tax rate.
“I think that I’ve been naive in trusting that the elected people would lead me in the right direction,” said Logan resident Geraldine Niederhauser.
Anderson said the increase is designed to help the city keep pace with inflation.
“It is holding the rate steady trying not to let inflation erode the property tax value,” he said. “I really think we’re trying to act responsibly. Unfortunately, we can’t expect to provide the same service for the same amount of money.”
So stop providing some of these so called services then! Wouldn't make me upset. Get rid of one of the many thousands of public parks and other government waste! Government's job does not include providing services. This belongs to the private sector! What a joke!
