I recently came across a letter to the HJ editor I had saved from a year or two ago. I can't believe I let it slip out from under me! This letter speaks more truth with regards to the political disaster we face in Utah and Cache Valley. For instance, our current Governor is not a conservative! Aside from protecting Illegal Aliens and supporting the 2004 Initiative 1, he has done much damage in moving our state into a democrat/socialist environment. He will never get my vote again! In fact I will actively campaign against him the next time around.

Locally, we are forced to accept government services we don't want such as recycling. I wonder what is next, maybe fluoride (poison) in our water system? Cache Valley elected leaders from Cache County to Logan City continue to raise Taxes only to dump more money into socialist programs such as the bus, the arts, parks, AWHC and even the multicultural center which is in support of Illegal Aliens. Imagine that, government money going to support the cause of Illegal Immigration!!! It has become such a disgusting situation that the State of Utah even grants driving privilege cards to people who break the law, knowingly!!!

I attended the local Cache County Republican convention two years ago at Mt. Logan Middle School. While I was there, I saw a few different people of whom I know to be Democrats pretending to be a part of the action. One of which switched parties and was a delegate for the Republican Party locally. If you think about it logically, we can see why local democrats may pretend to align themselves (only in image) with the Republican Party. They would not get elected or be able to move their progressive (insane) agenda forward especially around here. Put an “R” in front of their name on the ballot and its like magic, they are elected. They are like Trojan horses, a threat from within. This is happening throughout Utah and our Nation. It is a cancer! I hope Cache GOP chairman Butterfield will get a handle on this problem sooner rather than later. Same goes for the RNC!

America and yes, our own State of Utah is at the crossroads. One road leads to Communism (Democrats) and the other road leads to Socialism (Democrats dressed as Republicans) both of which I detest as a cancer to freedom and liberty!

Letter starts below.

"To the editor:

Among thinking people there is little dispute of the fact that the Republican Party has failed in its original Reagan Revolution and later in its Contract with America, to meet in practice, the high ideals were promoted as the foundation of these movements. In their years of majority they have become the party of hubris, immoral behavior, murderous wars, overspending, out-of-control government growth, elevation of special interests, and attack on the civil rights and freedoms of citizens. The local Republicans seem to admire their big brothers and sisters and are aping them as best they can. In Utah the Republicans have given us one of the most socialistic, fast-growing governments in the nation. James Carville recently said that the state of Utah is to the left of John McCain. I seldom agree with Carville but he certainly nailed that one. Since Evan Olsen served honorably and conservatively representing the 5th District we have elected three closet Democrats, Brent Parker, Kurt Webb and Scott Wyatt. If these folks ever read the Republican platform they certainly do not accept its principles. They have all been opposed to choice; all have been advocates of special interest agendas over the rights of citizens. They have all been self-promoters and budget busters. In fact in Mr. Wyatt’s latest mailer he brags of three accomplishments. Two are (1) budget busting and (2) acting in the interest of developers against the citizens of the community. The third is that he somehow made it a greater felony than it already was to murder a child. To invert a World War II phrase: Never have so few owed so much to so many. Never have our politicians been more out of touch with reality and the needs of our communities. Never have they been more enveloped in greed and arrogance and more disrespectful of the people they are supposed to represent. Never have they been more irresponsible. Think about that when you vote on Tuesday.

I think that the fundamental problem is a lack of understanding of the proper role of government, which is to protect life, liberty, and property. There are many good things we should be doing such as helping those less fortunate with our excess but forcing us to do 'good' is not the role of government unless it strictly falls into the proper role of government. When force is applied it is no longer done willingly and therefore most of the benefit is lost and some real problems start to emerge such as resentment. Look at the biggest complaints against illegals - they are supposedly taking advantage of the welfare state we have created.

Unfortunately we have too many overzealous do-gooders who try to create a government which acts as a parent. Just look at this latest proposal to change the required age to be in a car seat from 5 to 8. This is why many feel our state government acts like a Nanny.
