A CALL TO ACTION!
Weasels in Congress
How many of you know that the Bi-Partisan Campaign Reform Act (usually referred to as McCain-Feingold) makes it a Federal Offense punishable up to ten years in a Federal Prison (per incident) to mention the name of a candidate for federal office thirty days before a primary and sixty days before a general election. This jewel of legislation was not only approved by a majority vote in both houses of Congress, signed by President Bush and upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court! The same court that has ruled that pornography, flag burning, etc. is protected speech, but bans political advertising by citizens without failing to go through all kinds of legalistic hoops. And of course the Major Media are exempt. Congress has had three years to change this unconstitutional law but has failed to do so. Why, because this law makes it much harder for challengers to win office. So in reality it should be called the Incumbent Protection Act! This is only one of many failures of our elected representatives to actually represent us, their constituents.
After the 2000 Presidential election, Jeb Bush (the Presidents brother) addressed a national gathering of the NRA. In that speech he acknowledged that without the work of the NRA, President Bush would not have been elected. So how did they thank us, for a lot of very hard work and tremendous amounts of money spent on campaigning? By nothing next to nothing! The great triumph achieved in the 2000-2004 Congressional cycle was letting the Assault Weapons Ban expire! Our national leaders play us for the chumps that we obviously are. How many years have they had to seal our Borders? There are, I do not know how many, Federal judgeships left unfilled because of Democratic intransigence. Gee, I am so glad the Republicans are the majority. I am not sure why it is, but once a person gets to Washington they change. I think they really begin to enjoy the power and prestige and benefits. So getting reelected becomes the only real consideration. Possibly, if they can do something without stepping on the wrong toes they might write some legislation, usually only to see it amended to a completely different bill. And spending our money! Forget about it.
Under so called conservative Bush, the Federal government has expanded to a much greater leviathan than under Clinton. The amount of entitlements has skyrocketed comparable only to the Great Society under Johnson. I think that is why Bushes numbers are so low. The Iraq war has something to do with it, but I believe Congress’s failure and Presidents Bush’s actions have truly alienated his/their constituents. People are really pissed.
