A CALL TO ACTION!

Wishful Thinking

There is no economic or social model more discredited than Socialism, yet socialists seem to grow like mushrooms. Why is this? The answer is not based upon logic but by wishful thinking or utopianism. Despite the evidence that government is the least efficient means to accomplish anything we still have people calling for more laws often with the purpose of changing people’s behavior. One proposal which is gaining steam is the concept of a junk food tax. This is all based on voodoo science and could lead to a nightmare of regulations as and higher taxes on food which would hurt the poor the most (who they are supposedly trying to help). Another program which refuses to die is gun control. No matter how much information or logic you present to these people it doesn’t matter because they are utopian dreamers. They think that if we could only get rid of guns the world would be a better place and far fewer would die. No amount of argument will change their perspective because they are not rational!

The recent movement in Latin America back to socialist efforts (Venezuela, Bolivia etc) is based upon the same type of wishful thinking.

If our educational institutions did their job instead of producing these types of wishful thinker’s attempts at such efforts would fail out of the gate. But I am convinced that the people in power want an illogical populace which can then be more easily controlled. All forms of government are taking a bigger bit out of everyone’s paycheck even though this prevents or at least interferes with the creation of wealth. But dreamers and do gooders continue the call for bigger and bigger government which both parties are more than happy to support. This increases their power and control. The American people need to learn that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Everything has consequences. Every law passed reduces freedom and makes us all less prosperous. All reading this need to talk to those whom they love and encourage them to think about this issue. We are clearly not nearly as free as we were thirty years ago. Yet more and more people seem to line up to encourage their own reduction in freedom. Dreamers and wishful thinkers cannot be persuaded by logic. They need to be exposed for what they are. The problem!

Peace

I'd say we are about there when it comes to Logan Utah. The higher the Taxes, the less freedom we have. Utah is one of the highest Taxed states in the USA! They say that the Gas companies are hurting people. What about the Utah Gas Tax? The Government makes more on Gas than the Oil Companies do by far. Look at our new Mandatory Recycling? The law makers in Northern Utah are more Socialist than they are in other places in the world. More Government is not the answer!

Gas taxes are used to pay for roads. Is this socialist or does it allow in-state and intra-state trade? Are we really the highest taxed? Where are your numbers? According to http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/taxesbystate2005/index.html we are number 9. Please check your data before posting it in the future.

I lived in CT for a while and that government is far more dishonest/incompetent/rude that anything you will ever find in Utah. From what I have seen we have it easy here. As far as running for office, I would love to but I am a PhD student which is where I need to be right now. I will probably on be here for another 3 years so if I ran this November then I would barely be here long enough to complete a 2 year term. Maybe I will sometime later in my life but right now is not the right time. My contribution right now is to get involved in the process and try to educate others to current problems.

Last night I attended the Constitutional Party Cache County Convention.  It sounds to me like these guys have really spent time as Republicans trying to change the party but after many years gave up and went the the Constitution Party  because things are only getting worse.  I am a Republican but support neither Hatch nor Bishop as they have done terrible things while in obvious.  Cafta, Patriot Act, and uncontrolled spending.  I cannot vote for either Hatch or Bishop in good conscience because voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil.  I support Scott Bradley who is running against Hatch.  Scott is a very good person and knows what needs to be fixed and how to fix it.  I am not sure about Mark Hudson as I have not done my research yet and have only heard him speak once.

Anyway, I was thinking about the unfair media coverage.  Debates are kind of effective but not really because many politicians don't answer the questions honestly.  Sometimes people are busy when they are being held and cannot view them.  Sometimes politicians go on and on about something of no interest.  Wouldn't it be great if we could do an ongoing debate in this forum?  We have seperate threads and we allow them to be started by a question and then have Hatch/Bradley or Bishop/Hudson debate about the subject.  I think that it would be a great way to inform the public and hold politicians accountable.  Of course we could invite other parties like Democrats and Libertarians and see who would want to participate.  What to people think?  We would probably have to turn of the edit post option though for this forum.
