A favorite style of post at this site consists of a few comments (if any) accompanied by the body of an article, copied in whole into the post.
There are two things wrong with this. First, the copied text usually caries over some perverse version of the formatting that it had at its original site. The resulting text is usually very ugly and harder to read than it needs to be.
The second problem is that it is a blatant copyright violation. You usually can't post the entirety of someone else's work at another site, even if you attribute the work to the original author.
The better approach would be to talk about the article, mention what you think is important about it, even quote a few sentences that illustrate key points, and then post a link to the entire article. For example, one forum addressed the topic by quoting the relevant copyright laws, and then explained the site's policies. The post can be found here.
I know that I am not an administrator of this forum, so I can't dictate policy for the site, but I am a reader and I can state what I find distasteful in terms of style. I can also give friendly advice that can help you avoid legal problems (I know that it's unlikely, but some copyright owners do search the web for their works and press charges against violators).
So, please stop copying entire articles into your posts. |
