A CALL TO ACTION!
Smoke and Mirrors
Brother Thadius is a very intelligent and educated man. So it was with great surprise and consternation that while reading his column today (8/2/06) I noticed that he interjected the terms “stem cell research” and “fetal stem cell research” interchangeably. These terms are not at all identical and indicate to me of either confusion or a willingness to deceive the reader. Adult stem cells have been used for some time in medical research with varying degrees of success, while embryonic stem cells have yet to show any promising results. Why, all the fuss? You have to understand the forces which are promoting embryonic stem cell research. For years now, public support for abortion has been waning. The proponents for abortion are now trying to change that, by once again confusing the issue. Thus, all of a sudden embryonic stem cell research has become the vogue. If they can make the Bush Administration look like anti progress or anti science/religious extremists so much the better. For an excellent treatise on this issue I highly recommend Ann Coulter’s new book “Godless”. She does an excellent job of explaining things in a very understandable manner. Such a complex subject, like global warming, requires a significant amount of time for understanding. No fifteen seconds sound bites will work.
Incidentally, Michael Crichton’s book “State of Fear” while fiction, does an excellent job of exposing the mindset and motivations regarding all of the disinformation about global warming. It is a very entertaining and easy to read book. You deserve to share it with your friends and family.
