A CALL TO ACTION!

Divide and Conquer

By definition, every law, regulation, rule or statute diminishes our freedom. Why, because it gives additional power to those who enforce these laws and usually also involved additional taxes to pay for their enactment and enforcement. Most Americans are unaware of numerous abuses of our laws by those hired to enforce them. One case in point would be a recent story about a man and his wife who operated a wild boar hunting preserve. They had been for years, allowing hunters to come onto their property for the purposes of hunting wild boars. He was rated one of the top ten archers in the country and his preserve had been featured on “Wild and True” television program. At 5:00 am a game warden showed up at their door. When the husband answered he was placed immediately under arrest for “operating a mammalian hunting enclosure without a permit.” Then his property was swarmed by agents of laceName w:st="on">VirginialaceName> laceName w:st="on">StatelaceName> government who began to slaughter dozens and dozens of his pigs. This killing went on for days.  He and his wife had been operating their preserve for sixteen years. Originally he had applied for and received a permit. He had never been informed that there were any problems with his operation.

Evidently, a game warden found pseudorabies in one of his hogs. This disease is not harmful to humans but does kill piglets. Furthermore even though when the government eradicates an animal herd just compensation is to be given. This has not happened. The owner has been notified that he will be billed for the eradication which no doubt will be considerable. Now his business has been eliminated, he faces attorney fees, bail fees and court costs as well as the aforementioned bill. I wish that I could say that instances like this were uncommon. They are not. Law abiding Americans all over the country are facing harassment and incarceration for numerous “violations of law” which often the victims were aware. Was it really necessary to show up at 5:00 am and begin slaughtering the pigs without giving the defendant an opportunity to challenge the charges? Legal costs have sky rocketed. Even if you are found innocent usually the damage has already been done and the defendant is left destitute.

Yet many Americans are constantly arguing for more and more laws and regulations. A good case in point would be that laceName w:st="on">LoganlaceName> laceType w:st="on">CitylaceType> awhile back hired a compliance inspector to go around the community looking for violations of Logan’s zoning laws and other things like not complying with the sign ordinance. I personally know a person who just moved to this community and opened a new business in the downtown area. Opening any new business is always a risky proposition. In four straight days he had our compliance officer show up to his business and demand immediate attention (even when he was dealing with customers). All of the issues were petty in nature. A city that claims that it wants to invigorate its downtown business yet harasses and works against them is showing signs of a split personality. In a period of two months several years ago I had two complaints filled against me by anonymous citizens. Anyone can file a complaint against anyone else anonymously and it must be investigated. America is slowly being run more for the benefit of its government and employees instead of its citizens. But because this harassment and prosecution only happens to a small number of people at any given time most citizens are unaware of what is going on. I wonder what will it take for the people to wake up and set things right. We already put up with far more taxes and harassment from our government than the founding fathers ever did. Will your property become protected land for a newly discovered threatened bug or suddenly declared a wet land? Will you suddenly be found in violation of a city ordinance or zoning violation? Will you be charge with a crime for which you are innocent but charged for political purposes or by someone who is themselves in trouble and using you as a get out of jail card? Remember the old saying about they came for the Jews but I did nothing because I wasn’t a Jew?

Will you be next?

Peace
