Islamist terrorists are fast learners. If Mosque bombings could trigger a civil war in Iraq, why not in India? It certainly seems they are trying. “Unholy Terror dogs India’s Holy Places” is the title of a CNN-IBN report. The May 18th bombing is the latest of a series:

Friday’s attack was another in a series of terror attacks on mosques and temples that have happened in last one year. The blast at Hyderabad’s Mecca mosque is certainly not a one off incident for the places of worship in India are now becoming extremely vulnerable.

On September 8, 2006, explosions rocked the textile town of Malegaon in Maharashtra on a Friday that coincided with the Shab-e-Barat festival. . . .

April 14, 2006 was yet another black Friday, this time in India’s most famous Mosque - Jama Masjid in New Delhi. . . .

On March 7, 2007, twin bomb explosions rattle the temple town of Benaras. The first blast took place at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple that was crowded since the day was a Tuesday, which is considered auspicious by Hindus.

Another explosion took place near the Benaras Railway station. The attacks killed 20 people.

The authorities admit they had received warning but not specific enough to act preventively. They suspect the involvement of foreign terrorist groups:

Sources further claim that very few terrorist organisations operating within India have the kind of technical know-how that have been used to carry out a blast in Hyderabad, thereby hinting very strongly at three terror outfits - the Lashkar, the Jasish - e - Mohammed and the Bangladesh-based group, the HUJI.

There is more: The Police is investigating whether there is a link between Friday’s blast and the Aurangabad arms haul of May 2006. They suspect the involvement of Sheikh Nayeem who is in the custody of the Mumbai AntiTerrorist Squad in connection with that arms haul because he visited Hyderabad two months ago with two Pakistanis. They also believe that the presence of RDX and TNT in the bomb as well as the cell phone timer points to Jaish-iMohammad or Lashkar-i-Tayyeba Kolkata connection Police especially as they found that a SIM card from the cell phone timer was bought in Kolkata.

I suspect that somebody is trying to duplicate Al Qaeda’s success in instigating a civil war in Iraq. Already, Muslims blame the police, not the terrorists. The fact that riotous response to the bombing caused the police to shoot at the mob and kill five more Muslims played straight into the terrorists’ hands. “The mob tried to set a petro1pump and some policemen ablaze. We had no option but to fire,” said a police officer. But just look at the picture. The town is extremely tense but authorities hope that a promise of a thorough investigation of the police shooting will help restore calm.

As it concerned India, despite it being a nuclear power and a strategic American ally, the bombing did not make the NBC news or the front page of the NYT. That paper did not even include the bombing in the list of top international news. The story was relegated it to the bottom of Page 7. It is a small wonder that Indians repeatedly told me that Americans care only about terrorism in America. It is not the fault of Americans. MSM rarely bothers to cover non Western related terror. Why? Because their main goal is to convince their readers that terror is the fault of Israel or Western “imperialism” and it is impossible to fit Asian terrorism into that basic paradigm.
