Will History Repeat Itself?
I am sure most of you are familiar with the quote “those who refuse to learn from history are condemned to repeat it!” Unfortunately, conditions to me seem very much like they did in the nineteen twenties and thirties. A good example is a recent poll where more Germans believe the United States is more dangerous than any other country on earth, including Iran! Unfortunately, I have become too cynical to be shocked by this information. It seems to me, that the more successful a country becomes the more it entertains idiotic ideas. Suffering can ground a righteous people, where lack of want has a tendency to spoil and render intelligent people idiotic. During the twenties and thirties when Hitler was rising to power many people who should have known better believed and supported him. They had a far greater affinity with power than righteousness. Early on Hitler could have easily been stopped, but because of WWI those in a position to stop him refused. They preferred to believe in fairy tales as opposed to the truth. I am constantly reminded of Neville Chamberlain who was then the Prime Minister of Great Britain who thought that because Hitler had signed a non aggression pact, that he intended to obey it!
The slaughter of hundreds of millions followed. Now, we have people actually defending Saddam Hussein and believing that they can negotiate with the Iranians. They refuse to believe the truth, which is the Iranians firmly believe in what they are doing and nothing except force can prevent them from achieving their goals. If any of you have not read today’s Herald Journal you should definitely do so. In today’s issue they quote the Al Qaeda terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui extensively. We in the West because of our secular education prefer to believe that he is “psychotic!” But I do not believe that he is at all. I think that he is a true believer. He is only repeating what he has been taught since he was little boy buy his parent, Imams and others. Any true believer will seem nuts to those who do not share his belief. If you haven’t done so you should go to a previous posting that I made to a site which contains a very powerful song about radical Islam. This song reflects exactly what they believe.
Hitler told the world exactly what he intended to do, but most either didn’t bother to learn what he intended or just refused to believe it. Just as Osama Bin laden told what he would do, we chose to ignore him because it was the easiest path (at least at that moment). We in the West like to conceptualize and intellectualize things that frighten us. This often is only self delusion. Many Islamo fascists like to say “those of you in the West love Pepsi/Life/ whatever, we love Death!” This type of thinking has been with man since time memorial which is that by adopting a certain religion, economic system (communism), control guns or such similar idealism man can create “Heaven on Earth” but might have to crack a few eggs in the process. This has lead to the death of more people than you and I can imagine. If you study the fall of previous civilizations you will recognize that far more collapsed because of internal strife than outside forces. Will Western Civilization be next?
